Nigeria’s Ball Kid Journey to WAFCON Morocco 2024
In a bold initiative to inspire young girls and celebrate African football, TotalEnergies Nigeria launched a nationwide campaign to select a young ambassador—the Ball Kid—for the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
This wasn’t just about football. It was about creating a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a Nigerian child to step onto the global stage, shoulder to shoulder with Africa’s football stars.
Between May 13th and June 9th, 2025, over 600 entries poured in from across the country, targeting girls aged 13 to 16 with a passion for the beautiful game. After a rigorous selection process involving shortlisting, interviews, and parental consent, one name rose to the top:
Josephine Etini-Eyo, a 14-year-old football enthusiast with dreams as vast as the stadia she would soon step into.
Her journey was meticulously coordinated by the TotalEnergies team. From securing her visa and travel documents to arranging a guardian, every detail was handled with care. Josephine and her guardian, Iyabosa Adekoya, embarked on a fully sponsored trip to Morocco, where they stayed at a 4-star hotel in Rabat and enjoyed a schedule filled with cultural and sporting experiences.
Josephine proudly represented TotalEnergies Nigeria alongside other Ball Kids from across Africa. She stepped onto the pitch, met football stars, and soaked in the electric atmosphere of WAFCON 2024.
Now back home, Josephine reflects on her journey with joy and pride. From cheering on the sidelines to exploring Moroccan culture, she had a truly unforgettable experience—one that has left her inspired and more determined than ever to chase her football dreams. You’re one tap away.
