Total Believes in Nigeria – Barry
The Managing Director of Total Nigeria Plc., Imrane Barry has stated that the reason Total is the only International Oil Company (IOC) in the downstream sector in Nigeria is because the Group firmly believes in the country. Mr Barry was speaking at a business conference titled, Making Lemonades, Creating Opportunities in a Challenging Economy held at the Lagos Business School, Lekki-Epe expressway, Lagos on Thursday, April 11, 2019.
We believe in Africa. The beauty is that we are a medium enterprise and for such an organisation, it is important to be deeply rooted in the country where you are located," - Managing Director of Total Nigeria Plc., Imrane Barry
He further said, "Clarity, priority and focus is important in business. It is extremely important to know why we are doing something. It is important to set up our priority and stick to them. It is also vital to share the financial report with your team. This will put you all on the same page; nothing is hidden. This topic of discussion is just a reflection on our normal and daily lifestyle."
The MD pointed out that the major challenges to operational excellence are: "adaptation to changes and ensuring your balance sheet is strong, lack of urgency and also the variability and aim for excellence."
Other speakers at the one day conference were the Executive Director, International Banking Division, Guaranty Trust Bank, Ademola Odeyemi; Managing Director Galaxy Backbone, Yusuf Kazaure and Chief Financial Officer, IHS Towers, Olivier Angot.
In his contribution, Mr Odeyemi said, "The economic opportunities are actually there. What is missing is taking these opportunities and making use of them."
"This topic brings a lot of retrospection. It involves protecting your core which are your customers and your human resources – staff are your strength," said Mr Kazaure. He further explained the three biggest impediment to growth.
While presenting his perspective on topic, Mr Angot said that "listening to your customers, getting closer to them and fulfilling their needs is the best way to keep making lemonades."
Some senior management and staff of Total Nigeria Plc. and Total E&P Nigeria Ltd. were among professionals from different sectors of the economy that participated in the one-day conference.
The business conference was organised by Lagos Business School, Senior Management Programme (SMP) Class 69.
